Founders
Creststar
Crest was the founder of Crescentclan. A large dark maine coon, streaked with brown fur and dark eyes. Believed to be named for the fluffy crest down the back of his neck. Once considered a friendly and soft individual, Crest was a quite tom, preferring actions over words. He had travelled through the trees, finding it best to avoid unwanted fights and ambush prey from the canopy. Crest taught his clan the importance of the lunar cycle, and hunting at night when prey and predators alike rested. |
Boulderstar
An ex-kittypet with a need for adventure. Marble left her twolegs with the intent to explore, not expecting to be left behind to suffer leaf bare in the wild. Due to her kittypet roots she was not a strong hunter or fighter. Leading to many struggles and scars as she waited for her twolegs return. She eventually stumbled upon Crest's group and joined. The discovery of her lack of survival skills lead to many snide comments and cats looking down on her. Tired of this and feeling trapped in the dense, dark trees Marble followed the river south. A few cats joined her and together they discovered the Giant River. Marble found fishing to be easy and settled with her new friends on the rocky shore of the roaring water. She changed her name to Boulder in honor of her new home, renouncing her kittypet past. |
Chester
Chester was an old railyard cat who was kept around by the Twolegs because he chased and ate the mice and other rodents around the tracks. He was very kind and loving and acted as if all those who crossed his path were family. They say that even now, his spirit smiles down at his family from Starclan, the same warm smile that invited the rogues to band together to form it long ago. |
Beginning of the Clans
Many many seasons ago, as any Railclan cat will tell you, the territories used to be full of the calls of the Yellers. There were no clans, and twolegs were all around, bringing weird things into the trees and the river. They caught fish and scared away anything that the Yellers didn't. But that didn't stop cats from coming around. Some lived by the Yellers, some were brought by the twolegs, some didn't recall where they'd come from before. The first cat the clans recall is Creststar, then just named Crest, and his family. He arrived with his mate and kits as well as his sister. His family had once had a home to the west, far from the Yeller's cries. But as was the life of the wild, another cat's family had forced them out. Crest refused to let this happen again, finding a home in the thickest part of the forest. He welcomed other cats to live with him and his family, away from the Yellers and twolegs so long as these cats promised their loyalty. Then came along Boulderstar, named Marble at the time. Once a kittypet, she was left behind by her twolegs while exploring. She waited moons for them to return for her, scared to get too close to the Yellers. She struggled to fend for herself, stumbling upon Crest's little group. She was welcome with warm paws at first, quickly being looked down on for her lack of ability to survive at her age. Boulder didn't like the forest, finding it too dense and dark. Finding a few cats that felt the same she led them down the forest river and discovered the Giant River. Its sound had always been covered by the Yellers roar to the cats in the trees. But Boulder found the river's sound to be much nicer, even comforting. One of the cats that had joined her, then known as Trout, taught her and the others to fish, leading to the group deciding that the Giant River could be home.
For many seasons the two groups lived relatively peacefully for many seasons. Until Crest's son, Blue's, body had been found in the streams near Boulderclan. Crest, overcome with guilt and anger, shut down. Telling his clanmates that any rogue was a threat as long as they should live. They secluded themselves within the forest, and started enforcing unspecific borders. If any cat got too close to their border it was a fight. But as far as Marble's group could tell, too close was always different. This led to many fights, slowly growing worse and worse. Marble tried to get Crest to talk, to find a solution that worked for both clans. But Crest would not concede. The tension had grown too strong for the groups to be able to trust each other and talk. This all came to a head when group of cats from Marble's group accidently crossed into Crest's claimed territory. They were caught by a group that included Crest's mate, Drift. A fight broke out and, in her fury and hurt that lingered from her sons murder and had only grown with the rising tension; Drift killed a cat from Marble's group, Gale, ruthlessly. This surprised both sides, and Marble's cats decided to retreat and tell their leader what happened.
When Crest learned of the cat's death, it did crack the harsh shell he had built just a bit, seeing as his mate was thoroughly shaken by it. When Marble requested a meeting, this time he agreed, partly in apology for the death. The two leaders decided to set the borders together, so no cat from either group could be unsure of where they lay. As well, the idea of a code of honor is introduced. The first code created in remembrance of the loss that lead to the meeting. No cat needed to kill to be triumphant. With the terms agreed on both leaders returned to their homes. Things grew peaceful once more. Marble in turn, changed her name. Choosing to be known as Boulder, in honor of their home and all her group had been through to get to where they were. How they had stood strong against any storm, strong as the boulders that made up their home.
After endless seasons of the Yeller's screams being the background of every cats life. They suddenly grew less and less until one day they were just gone. And with them so were the twolegs. It wasn't long before prey returned to the area the Yellers had once run through. Chester, an old mouser for the station the Yeller's had once run by, watched this all. He had grown up in the station, known it is whole life. He had no where else to go. It didn't take him long to notice other cats were in the same boat. So he welcomed them into his station. Any and all who wished were invited into the station to live and shelter. It was a bit of a mess, many twoleg objects strewn about and left. But it was shelter from the rain and larger animals that may see a cat as their next meal. Before any cat realized they had quiet a fair sized group and it wasn't long before they learned of their neighbors across the river and along the rocky shores.
It took Chester many tries to meet these new groups. The ones across the river, that liked to run through the trees, didn't seem to keen on conversation. He heard many grumbles from the cats he offered shelter of the tree cats preference of claws over words. The river cats were much easier. After a few attempts, he was finally able to meet Boulder. He informed her of his growing group, letting her know they meant no harm. From Boulder he learned of the others borders and a bit of their history. The tree cats, Crest group as he learned, made more sense now. Chester expressed an interest in the code Boulder spoke of, and asked if she could help him meet Crest. It took some time, Crest having no interest in meeting with a group of rogues. But eventually he agreed, no one quite sure what it was that convinced him. Chester then suggested an annual meeting, so that the groups could share news easier. The warn each other of known dangers or discuss if a new problem had arisen. Instead of trying to flag each other down every time. Boulder and Crest didn't seem to interested at first. They had never needed special meetings before now. But after some time and testing Gatherings became a regular occurrence.
Location of the Gatherings was always tricky. No cat wanted to just let the other groups onto their home after all. For a while they met on Chester's land. The old tom seeing no harm in it. Crest though felt threatened, surrounded by Crest's group in unfamiliar land. But they made due, holding each other to the code and Crest always brought his strongest cats just in case. One gathering, Boulder brought a new cat. She called herself Brindle and spoke of cats with stardust in their pelts. How she had seen them in the falls where the river that flowed between Crest and Chester's territories, into Boulder's. She told them of how these cats called themselves StarClan and told her where to find each group. She spoke of Blue and Gale, which angered Crest. How did this strange cat know of his lost son. Brindle was surprisingly ready for Crest's anger, telling him of specific details that only Blue would know. She told him how he could see Blue again, speak with him for a time without the need of his own death. Over the next moon she lead both Boulder and Crest to the falls, where the two earned 9 lives from their lost loved ones. When Brindle arrived to the station to take Chester, she was sadly met with the news of his passing. She offered the opportunity to his processor, Rust. Rust is hesitant at first, but after talking with Hare and Sage, the cats he trusted to help when he was unsure of a decision, he agreed. At the next gathering the three leaders shared their experiences with StarClan, sharing the new names they had been given. Creststar, Boulderstar and Ruststar. After sharing this knew knowledge, they each shared the decision for a name of each group. In honor of StarClan, they stopped calling themselves the leaders groups and started calling themselves Clans. CrescentClan in honor of the moon. BoulderClan in honor of their home. and RailClan in honor of what lead to their clans existence.
